Stabil, Habibi! – A boxing ring for the big questions of youth life

In the FOYER III of the Theater Duisburg, the stage space becomes a boxing ring: Three people come together, fight out conflicts, and seek answers to questions that young people are directly concerned with. Stabil, Habibi! by Katharina Böhrke combines acting, theater pedagogy, and the perspectives of young people into a concentrated stage experience for everyone aged 12 and older.

When life becomes a fight

Lupo, Mare, and Angry come from Neumühl, Neudorf, and Rheinhausen. Who is here for what reason? Who wants something from whom? And when does attitude become mere posturing? The production places school, family, and friendships at its center, as well as performance pressure, injustice, anger, love, and the digital vibe of TikTok.

Young people as impulse givers of dramaturgy

The play was created in close collaboration with six sponsor classes from grades 7, 8, and 9. More than 150 young people between the ages of 12 and 16 contributed their perspectives, worries, and ideas to the material development. This gives the dramaturgy an immediate closeness to the everyday life of its audience: The conflicts do not seem far away but are right in the room.

Direct acting in a condensed stage set

The stage design by Christina Hillinger focuses the action on the visual language of the boxing ring. The directing and text work by Katharina Böhrke combines physical tension with precise questions about identity, belonging, and boundaries. Video installations by Arda Cansin Öztürk expand the stage area and relate digital life worlds to the direct presence of acting.

An evening of theater with room for exchange

Katharina Böhrke developed the idea, concept, and text. Together with Patrick Dollas and Lulu Feuser, she brings the characters to the stage. The performance lasts about 45 minutes and is accompanied by a 15-minute follow-up discussion. Thus, the stage experience does not end with the final applause but opens the space for reflection and conversation.

Conclusion: Theater that takes young people seriously

Stabil, Habibi! transforms the boxing ring into a resonance space for anger, friendship, pressure, and the desire for recognition. The theater atmosphere thrives on closeness, movement, and a clear dramaturgical setting. Those who want to experience young perspectives on stage and reflect on their own boundaries, struggles, and hopes will find an immediate and discussion-rich stage experience at the Theater Duisburg.
