Stabil, Habibi!: A boxing ring for the big questions of youth life
When the lights come on on February 11, 2027, in FOYER III of the Theater Duisburg, the stage will transform into a boxing ring. In Stabil, Habibi! by Katharina Böhrke, three young people come together: Lupo, Mare, and Angry. They come from Neumühl, Neudorf, and Rheinhausen and bring with them questions that arise between school, family, friendship, and digital everyday life.
Where life becomes a fight
Who is here and why? Who wants what from whom? And what happens when the guard falls? The staging condenses these questions into an immediate stage form. The boxing ring becomes a social focal point, an arena for anger, pressure to perform, injustice, and the desire for recognition.
The dramaturgy connects physical tension with keen observation. It's about too much and too little, about love, friendship, and one's own vibe. TikTok also belongs to this present, where self-presentation and vulnerability lie closely together.
Young people as impulse givers in stage art
The play was created in close collaboration with six classes of grades 7, 8, and 9. More than 150 young people between the ages of 12 and 16 contributed their experiences, ideas, and perspectives on the world as the foundation for this theatrical work. This gives the production a special proximity to the reality of its audience's lives.
Directing, acting art, and theater pedagogical research interact. Instead of explaining youth topics from the outside, Stabil, Habibi! brings their friction directly onto the stage: bullying, stress in school and family, body shaming, performance pressure, and the search for belonging.
A concentrated hour in FOYER III
The stage experience lasts one hour and is aimed at visitors aged 12 and older. The reduced playing time aligns with the concentrated form: short paths, clear conflicts, and a fast pace create a theater atmosphere where every gesture holds weight. The foyer space does not simply become a backdrop but an immediate meeting place between performers and audience.
The audience reaction arises from the recognition of the situations. Stabil, Habibi! speaks about growing up without smoothing over contradictions. The production poses questions before providing answers, thus opening room for conversation, reflection, and personal resonance.
Conclusion: Theater that makes the pulse of the present tangible
Visitors can expect a contemporary youth theater production with clear imagery, physical energy, and a dramaturgy that takes the daily lives of young people seriously. Those who want to experience theater as a lively resonance space will discover in Stabil, Habibi! an intense stage experience about courage, pressure, friendship, and the question of when attitude becomes true strength.
