Sound on! brings feminist voices into motion
On December 17, 2026, the opera foyer of Theater Duisburg transforms into a resonance space for dance, beats, and strong voices. Anna Konjetzky's dance piece Sound on! is aimed at a young audience and combines contemporary choreography with live music, video, and an energetic collage of protest.
Between Dance, Concert, and Stage Manifesto
Three dancers and the Duisburg singer Florence Mankenda search for their place in the world. Body, voice, and live camera intertwine as electronic beats by Sergej Maingardt set the rhythm of the production. The dramaturgy follows no linear narrative pattern but develops as a multi-voiced rap of feminist perspectives: wild, contemplative, and rebellious.
A Production about Courage and Community
Communities, role models, and new perspectives emerge on stage. Quotes, video, and music merge into a theatrical protest collage, in which multilingual voices from different times resonate into the present. The direction and artistic leadership by Anna Konjetzky relies on an immediate stage language that makes social injustices visible while simultaneously celebrating the joy of movement and expression.
Live Camera, Beats, and Physical Presence
The stage set remains in motion: Joscha Eckert's live camera expands the view as the dancers react to one another with precise acting skills and physical presence. Acoustics, lighting ambiance, and electronic music create a theatrical atmosphere that connects concert energy with choreographic precision. Thus, the body becomes a resonant instrument and the stage a place for listening, dissenting, and showing oneself.
Developed for a Young Audience
The piece was developed in cooperation with the Young Opera and various school classes from Duisburg and Düsseldorf. This proximity to the lives of young people shapes the stage experience: Sound on! speaks about identity, solidarity, and the courage to stand up for oneself and for friends. The central message is: It’s cool to be feminist!
Conclusion: Theater as a Shared Sound Space
Sound on! promises a powerful stage experience between dance theater, concert, and feminist performance. Those who want to experience contemporary stage art, electronic sounds, and a physically immediate production will find a concentrated place for movement, stance, and community in the opera foyer of Theater Duisburg.
