Scrooge: Dickens' Christmas Classic at the Duisburg Theater

When the darkness of December falls over Duisburg, the door to Ebenezer Scrooge's cold world opens in the foyer III of the Duisburg Theater. Scrooge – A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens brings a timeless tale of greed, remorse, compassion, and human transformation to the stage on December 21, 2026.

A Night Between Coldness and Hope

Ebenezer Scrooge despises Christmas and views every form of generosity as waste. However, his hard-hearted perspective on the world is shaken when he is haunted by the ghosts of his past, present, and future. The dramatic journey leads through memories, visions, and shocking encounters until the lonely miser becomes a person who redefines his life.

Charles Dickens' Timeless Dramaturgy

Charles Dickens first published A Christmas Carol in 1843. The story combines social indictment with eerie tension and Christmas warmth. It is precisely this contrast that gives the piece its lasting power: After the social coldness of the beginning, mysterious images, emotional climaxes, and hope for change follow.

Immediate Theatre Atmosphere in Foyer III

The foyer III is the studio of the Duisburg Theater for extraordinary theater productions. The intimate stage situation creates a special closeness between the acting art and the audience. Every gesture, every glance, and every nuance of acoustics gains significance. The lighting mood and stage space make Scrooge's nocturnal journey appear immediate and concentrated.

A Stage Experience for the Advent Season

The performance lasts from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM and focuses on the central question of how much humanity is hidden in a seemingly hardened heart. The audience experiences an atmospheric Christmas story that combines eeriness, reflection, and warmth.

Scrooge promises a concentrated stage experience in the special space of foyer III: a classic Christmas story condensed into immediate acting art and strong transformation.
