Scrooge: Dickens’ Christmas Classic in the Foyer III of the Duisburg Theatre

When in December the lights fade earlier and the city sparkles in winter's cold, the door to Ebenezer Scrooge's world opens at the Duisburg Theatre. The performance Scrooge – A Christmas Carol based on Charles Dickens combines a timeless tale of greed, remorse, and humanity with the immediate closeness of Foyer III.

A Hard-hearted Man and the Night of Transformation

Ebenezer Scrooge is one of the most famous characters in world literature: a wealthy businessman who despises Christmas and has little more than distrust for his fellow human beings. On that famous night, he encounters the ghosts of the past, present, and future. Their images force him to re-examine his life, his relationships, and the consequences of his choices.

Dramaturgy Between Horror, Warmth, and Hope

Charles Dickens first published A Christmas Carol in 1843. To this day, the story fascinates with its clear dramaturgy: Following the social coldness of the beginning come mysterious encounters, shocking visions, and ultimately the possibility of change. The production guides the audience through an atmospheric Christmas story, where eerie moments and human warmth lie closely side by side.

Theatre Atmosphere in Foyer III

Foyer III creates a concentrated closeness between the stage and the audience. Every gesture, every glance, and every nuance of acting gains weight in this intimate space. The lighting mood, acoustics, and the immediate stage situation allow Scrooge's nightly journey to be experienced particularly directly: The audience sits not just before a story but finds itself in the midst of its memory space.

A Stage Experience for the Advent Season

The performance lasts one hour and is suitable as a compact theatre visit in the middle of the pre-Christmas season. At its center is the question of whether a person can change their attitude when forced to face the past and future without excuses. This is precisely where the lasting power of this Christmas story lies.

Conclusion: Scrooge promises a concentrated, atmospheric stage experience at the Duisburg Theatre. Those who want to experience Dickens’ classic live and be touched by a story about compassion, responsibility, and new beginnings will find in Foyer III the perfect place for a special Advent afternoon.
