Three Sailors, One Shore Leave, and New York on Stage

On the Town is Leonard Bernstein's musical about three sailors exploring New York during their shore leave. The performance combines a story about the desire to explore and the atmosphere of the big city with Bernstein's musical signature.

At the center are three sailors who use their limited time on land to get to know New York. The shore leave serves as a starting point for a journey through the city and for encounters that make the musical particularly appealing. New York appears as a vibrant setting where movement, curiosity, and various impressions come together.

Musical at the Large House

The performance takes place at the Large House of the Theater Duisburg. This allows visitors to experience Bernstein's musical in a classic theater setting and at a central cultural venue in the city. The Large House provides the right atmosphere for a stage production that connects music, plot, and the urban feeling of New York.

On the Town is aimed at everyone who wants to experience musical theater and Leonard Bernstein's compositions. Even those interested in stories about travel, big cities, and brief, intense encounters will find an appropriate evening in this stage work. The focus is not on a tourist guide, but on the unique perspective of three sailors on New York during their shore leave.
