Forsythe / Eyal: Electrifying Dance Between Precision and Ecstasy
In the Great House of the Duisburg Theater, two distinctive choreographic styles of the present meet: William Forsythe and Sharon Eyal. The Ballet am Rhein combines classical academic virtuosity with an expressive, physically intense movement language and transports the audience into a theater atmosphere full of rhythm, tension, and visual power.
When Classical Forms Get Out of Line
William Forsythe shifts familiar ballet forms, accelerates transitions, and pushes the classical movement vocabulary to its limits. His choreography thrives on precise lines, surprising changes of direction, and a dramaturgy where every body impulse gains meaning. The dancers transform technical brilliance into a stage experience of high concentration and immediate impact.
Expressive Bodies, Electrifying Rhythm
Sharon Eyal counters the analytical sharpness of Forsythe with an expressive, almost trance-like movement language. Repetition, pulsating dynamics, and a strong physical presence create a pull that transfers directly from the stage to the audience. Lighting, acoustics, and stage design condense into an atmospheric total work of art.
Ballet Between Discipline and Freedom
The production brings together two different perspectives on contemporary stage art. Here, the controlled precision of classical training meets a raw, sensual energy. The directing and choreography styles of Forsythe and Eyal open up a tension field between order and dissolution, between geometric clarity and bodily ecstasy.
An Evening for Curious Dance Lovers
With a duration of 105 minutes, Forsythe / Eyal offers a concentrated ballet program without an intermission. The performance is aimed at all who appreciate contemporary dance, challenging choreography, and visually striking theater evenings. The audience reaction arises from the immediate impression: from the dancers' breath, the precise sound of movement, and the tension of a body re-measuring the space.
