Eulenspiegel: Between Raucous Laughter and Dark Omens
On January 26, 2027, the FOYER III of the Theater Duisburg will transform into a colorful playground for Till Eulenspiegel. Patrick Dollas approaches the legendary figure in a staging infused with the energy of folk theater: loud, contradictory, mischievous, and simultaneously permeated by a sinister shadow side.
A Fool Who Avoids No One
Eulenspiegel appears as a fool, jester, vagabond, and troublemaker. Wherever Till appears, certainties become unstable. His pranks expose the people around him, making him both popular and feared. The dramaturgy follows a figure that remains bound to no place and no person, paying for its freedom with loneliness.
When Schadenfreude Turns into Sympathy
The center of the production features the old Till on his deathbed. Haunted by the voices of those he has wronged, he wrests a reprieve from death. From the comedic play, a chilling journey unfolds through memory, fear, and madness. Laughter loses its innocence and opens the eyes to the consequences of a life filled with pretense.
Folk Theater with Literary Echo
The character traces back to a collection of pranks from Dil Ulenspiegel published in 1510. Over the centuries, new variations of the material emerged. Patrick Dollas draws on this theatrical tradition and connects it with the work of the youth club Spieltrieb. This results in a production that merges historical motifs with immediate acting craft and contemporary stage energy.
An Intense Stage Experience in FOYER III
The intimate theater atmosphere of FOYER III brings the audience and the performance closely together. Amid raucous moments, dark omens, and surprising mood shifts, a concentrated stage experience unfolds. The acoustics of the room, the proximity to the performance, and the changing light atmosphere sharpen the perception of every gesture and audience reaction.
Conclusion: Experience Eulenspiegel Live
This performance promises no harmless farce, but a contradictory theater experience between comedy, abyss, and sympathy. Those wishing to discover the famous rogue as a multifaceted stage figure will experience a pointed production with literary resonance at the Theater Duisburg. Secure your ticket and meet Till Eulenspiegel where his laughter has the strongest impact: live on stage.
