When the Duisburg Forest Tells Stories
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Culture and City Historical Museum Duisburg will transform into a narrative resonance space for fairy tales, myths, and legends. Clara Gold invites little and big literature lovers to a reading and connects the mysterious world of storytelling with a creative crafting activity.
Between Holy Springs and Legendary Figures
The focus is on stories from around the world and from Duisburg. The reading leads into the new special exhibition History(ies) from the Duisburg Forest, in which the centuries-old relationship between humans and forests becomes visible. Foxes, dwarfs, and other legendary figures open a gateway to oral tradition, regional memory culture, and universal motifs of fairy tales.
Literary Experience for the Whole Family
The voice, the rhythm, and the linguistic imagery of a reading turn known narrative patterns into an immediate literary experience. Fairy tales are among the oldest forms of cultural transmission: They bundle fears, hopes, and life wisdom in clear images and create discussion spaces between generations.
From Listening to Your Own Fairy Tale Book
After the reading, participants will go to the Mercator Workshop. There, visitors will create their own fairy tale book, which they can take home afterward. The combination of literary mediation, museum education, and creative work makes the event a special kind of author encounter: Stories are not just heard but rewritten by participants themselves.
A Morning at the City Museum
The meeting point is in the museum foyer of the special exhibition. The Culture and City Historical Museum at Duisburg's inner harbor offers the perfect setting for an event that connects regional history, international storytelling traditions, and cultural education. Participation is aimed at people from 0 to 99 years; children under six years require a companion.
Conclusion: Experience Stories Together Live
This reading connects the art of language, imagination, and personal creativity. Those who love fairy tales, want to discover Duisburg myths, or provide children with a sustainable access to literature will experience an atmospheric morning full of mysterious images and creative impulses at the city museum. Registration is recommended as places are limited.
