When Duisburg Zoo shines in a thousand colors
From November 5 to December 6, 2026, Duisburg Zoo will transform into a fascinating world of lights on several evenings. The Zoo Lights combine festival atmosphere, winter zoo visits, and impressive light art into a special multi-day experience for families, friends, and all who love atmospheric evenings outdoors.
A circular path full of light art
From Thursdays to Sundays, the gates open from 5 to 9 PM. Along a nearly four-kilometer-long circular path, more than 30 light installations shimmer. Hundreds of spotlights colorfully present trees, plants, and paths, making the zoo grounds an atmospheric open-air backdrop.
Chinese dragon, lanterns, and animal sculptures
The third edition of the Zoo Lights sets new accents: Chinese lanterns lead into an Asian-inspired world of light, while flowers, butterflies, and life-sized unicorns create fairy-tale moments. As a special highlight, an eight-meter-long Chinese dragon awaits visitors for the first time.
The animal world also shapes the lineup of light objects. The BIG 5 with elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, and rhino focus on the character of the zoo. Additionally, StringBalls float like a sea of glowing orbs above the circular path, transforming individual areas into impressive stage settings.
Festival atmosphere between zoo, nature, and gastronomy
The Zoo Lights feel like a relaxed winter festival in the green: Light reflections are mirrored in the vegetation, illuminated treetops create surprising perspectives, and the walk invites exploration at one's own pace. Several food offerings along the paths ensure warm breaks and appropriate refreshments during the evening.
Tickets and important notes
The admission tickets are valid for a specific event day and are available online, at ticket machines, and at the box office during regular zoo opening hours. Adults pay 17.50 euros, children from 3 to 17 years old 10 euros. For dogs, the ticket costs 4 euros. Until October 31, there is an early bird price of 16 euros for adults and 9 euros for children.
