Experience music up close: Open rehearsal of the Duisburg-West Music Association
On Saturday, November 14, 2026, the Duisburg-West Music Association opens its doors at Krupp-Gymnasium, Flutweg 62 in Duisburg. From 12:00 to 15:00, guests can experience an open rehearsal, gain insights into the joint rehearsal work, and discover the sound world of a modern wind orchestra.
Wind music up close
The open rehearsal is aimed at everyone who wants to experience music not just by listening, but in the midst of the musical process. Musicians who play a wind instrument, percussion, or E-instrument are especially invited. A lively live atmosphere emerges between instrument groups, rhythmic synchronization, and focused conducting, where the work of an ensemble becomes palpably clear.
Ralph Rüegg as a special guest conductor
A highlight of the musical afternoon is guest conductor Ralph Rüegg. Born in Zurich in 1965, the percussionist studied, among other places, at the Swiss Jazz School and the Folkwang University of the Arts. As a professional musician, he has worked with the Düsseldorf and Duisburg Symphony Orchestras, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, and the Young Philharmonic Cologne.
Experience, sound, and stage performance
Since 2006, Ralph Rüegg has led the Concert Band Ruhr, formerly the Essen-Werden Wind Orchestra. His experience as a drummer, lecturer, and workshop leader shapes the musical work just as much as the sonic precision of a large wind orchestra. Visitors will experience how individual voices develop into a collective sound through orchestration, dynamics, and precise coordination.
Musical performance to conclude
After the open rehearsal, a musical performance follows. This appointment combines a behind-the-scenes look with a direct concert experience: the rehearsal work is first made visible, and then the music unfolds as a shared stage moment. The atmosphere among the audience at Krupp-Gymnasium promises a special musical afternoon for association members, instrumentalists, and interested guests.
Conclusion: Experience wind music in the creative process
The open rehearsal of the Duisburg-West Music Association offers an authentic insight into association work, ensemble sound, and modern wind music. Anyone who wants to experience music up close, get to know the association, and witness Ralph Rüegg as guest conductor should not miss this appointment in Duisburg.
