With vigor into the new year: The Salon Orchestra in the opera foyer

The Duisburg Philharmonic welcomes the year 2027 with a festive New Year's concert in the opera foyer of the Duisburg Theatre. Members of the orchestra and selected guests combine classical elegance, dance-like lightness, and the special shine of a musical matinee.

A firework of overtures and waltzes

Under the direction, moderation, and violin of Tonio Schibel, the Salon Orchestra opens the concert morning with two brisk overtures: Carl Maria von Weber's romantic opera Euryanthe and Franz von Suppè's successful operetta Poet and Peasant set powerful accents. Precise orchestration, lively synchronization, and a transparent salon orchestra sound give the program its festive character.

Viennese three-quarter time meets musical wanderlust

Of course, the waltzes of the Viennese Strauss dynasty cannot be missed at a New Year's concert. Josef Strauss is represented with the waltz Aquarellen, while Johann Strauss’ Treasure Waltz brings elegant movement and a nostalgic ball atmosphere into the opera foyer. Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien then opens a view into the south, illuminating Mediterranean colors, temperamental rhythms, and musical wanderlust.

From Norway to the opera foyer

To conclude, Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 leads into the Nordic sound world of Norway. Between lyrical moments, dance-like tension, and distinctive themes, a varied concert arc is created. The conducting by Tonio Schibel and the stage performance of the musicians ensure an immediate concert experience with fine acoustics and festive audience atmosphere.

Conclusion: Classical start to the year with special sparkle

The New Year's concert with the Salon Orchestra combines Viennese waltzes, romantic overtures, and colorful orchestral music for a lively start to the new year. Those who want to celebrate the start of the year with live atmosphere, musical elegance, and a versatile program will experience a stylish concert matinee in the opera foyer of the Duisburg Theatre.
