Dude, what is that??: When the world suddenly wears question marks
On January 15, 2027, the Foyer III in the Duisburg Theater will become the scene of a journey that is both humorous and thought-provoking through the big and small riddles of everyday life. Dude, what is that?? is aimed at young people aged 14 and above and combines acting, pointed dialogues, video installations, and direct audience interaction.
Stand-up feeling meets the theater stage
Here, the audience is not served dry textbook theater, but a lively mix of acting, comedy atmosphere, and sharp observation. Katharina Böhrke developed the idea, concept, and text. Together with Patrick Dollas, Lulu Feuser, and Arman Marvani, an ensemble evening is created that does not smooth over questions but rather pushes them to the limit with timing, interaction, and a hefty dose of stage energy.
Punchlines between everyday life, uncertainty, and big questions
The title sounds like the phrase that comes up when your head briefly disconnects from the Wi-Fi. This is exactly where the production sets in: in moments when young people question their surroundings and adults suddenly realize that their explanations are not particularly stable either. The humorous language meets theatrical scenes, creating a laughter experience with space for reflection.
Video installations and visible stage technology
Christina Hillinger is responsible for stage and costumes, Arda Cansin Öztürk for the video installations. This expands the stage space beyond the immediate stage action. Images, voices, and movement interlock and provide a modern theatrical aesthetic, where cabaret impulses, acting, and visual atmosphere interplay.
A format for young people aged 14 and over
The production is created in close collaboration with the Karl-Lehr-Realschule, the Gesamtschule Walsum, the Landfermann-Gymnasium, and the Children and Youth Center Alte Schmiede. This closeness to the life world of young people shapes the production: authentic perspectives, direct language, and audience reactions that start not just after the final applause.
Conclusion: 45 minutes of performance, 15 minutes of follow-up discussion
Visitors can look forward to a compact, energetic theater production with humor, music of images, and questions that can't simply be brushed off. The performance lasts about 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute follow-up discussion. Those who crave youth theater with punchlines, interaction, and real conversational material will experience a theater visit where a question mark is clearly more entertaining than a ready answer.
